EPQ UCAS Points and University Applications

See the EPQ tariff points by grade and understand why course requirements matter more than adding up a total.

EPQ tariff points by grade

The Level 3 Extended Project tariff ranges from 28 points for A* to 8 for E. The table below shows the grade values. Confirm your exact qualification in the UCAS calculator.

How universities use an EPQ

Universities set their own entry requirements. Some may take an EPQ into account or describe an alternative offer; others may not include it in their tariff total. Do not assume that an EPQ replaces a required subject or grade.

Check each course’s current admissions page and the wording of any offer. Ask admissions directly if the role of the EPQ is unclear.

Value beyond the points

A project can give a student something substantial to discuss: a research decision, a disagreement between sources or a conclusion revised after further reading.

In a 2027 entry application or interview, explain what the experience taught you and why it is relevant. Listing the qualification alone says less about your thinking. Support is available for students applying across a wide range of courses and universities.
