Move beyond calling a source biased
A source’s perspective matters, but a label does not explain its value. Jane helps students connect provenance and context to what a source can and cannot show about the question.
A source may be useful for understanding attitudes even when particular claims need corroboration. Evaluation should explain that distinction using evidence.
Connect the method to the exam question
Sessions use the student’s actual specification and question type. Some tasks ask about utility; others require comparison, inference or evaluation of an interpretation. These demands should not be treated as interchangeable.
- Provenance, purpose and historical context
- Utility, reliability and limits of evidence
- Comparing source content with contextual knowledge
- Understanding and comparing historical interpretations
- Evaluating claims and applying the method under exam conditions
